Meet Your New Wilmington Newborn Photographer

Hi, Wilmington!

I’m the new in-home newborn photographer in town, and I thought it was time I properly introduced myself.

My name is Pola. I’m a mother of three girls, and my best friend finally convinced me to move to Leland after six years of living three hours apart. I’m definitely not mad about having the beach so close by, and my kids go to the most amazing and magical school I’ve ever seen.

But I digress!

If you’re expecting a baby—or you just welcomed one into your family—first of all, congratulations.

These days are exhausting, emotional, messy, overwhelming, beautiful, and somehow over way too quickly.

And I know that trying to schedule newborn pictures can feel like one more thing on an already very long list.

I know because I’ve been there.

The hardest part about newborn photos? Sometimes it’s just booking them.

When I needed newborn pictures for my own babies, I realized that if I hadn’t scheduled them while I was still pregnant, there was a very good chance they simply weren’t going to happen.

Because once the baby arrives?

You have no time.

And honestly, that’s okay.

You’re feeding a tiny human around the clock. You’re recovering. You’re probably sleeping in two-hour increments. There are diapers everywhere. You may have older kids who still need breakfast, snacks, help finding their shoes, and approximately 47 other things.

Then someone says, “Okay, now get everyone dressed and put the brand-new baby in the car.”

😳

No thank you.

Getting a brand-new baby into a car seat can feel stressful enough without adding a drive across town, finding a new place, getting everyone inside, and hoping your baby doesn’t decide that the moment you arrive is the perfect time to poo.

And if you have older children?

Taking everyone somewhere unfamiliar for pictures can be even more challenging.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I decided to specialize in in-home newborn photography.

Home is where your family belongs.

Instead of asking you to pack up your entire new life and bring it to me, I come to you.

Your baby gets to stay where they are comfortable.

You get to stay where you are comfortable.

Dad doesn’t have to figure out how to entertain a toddler in an unfamiliar studio.

Your older kids can have a snack, play with their toys, or take a break when they need one.

And if the baby needs to eat?

We stop.

If the baby needs a diaper change?

We stop.

If somebody needs a minute?

We take a minute.

There is no rushing through your baby’s first days.

“But my house isn’t picture-perfect.”

Good.

Seriously.

You do not need a fancy nursery.

You don’t need perfect decor.

You don’t need a million-dollar house with a lake view.

(Although I certainly won’t be mad about that. 😉)

You don’t even need a particularly “photogenic” house.

All we really need is you, your baby, and a window.

Most of your newborn photographs will be about the people—not the house.

Your baby’s tiny fingers.

Their little face tucked underneath your chin.

Dad holding them close.

Big brother or sister meeting the new baby.

Your family snuggled together on your couch.

Sometimes your hands and your chest are all the “props” we need.

Because the point isn’t to photograph your house.

The point is to photograph your family in the place where your family actually lives.

“But I don’t know how to pose.”

You don’t need to.

You don’t need to know where to put your hands, how to stand, or what you’re supposed to do with your face when someone points a camera at you.

I’ll guide you.

But more importantly, I’m looking for the moments that happen naturally.

The way you look at your baby.

The way Dad holds their tiny body against his chest.

The way you reach out to kiss their head.

The way your toddler climbs onto the bed because they suddenly want to be part of the picture.

Those little interactions are the things I want you to remember.

The hardest part about newborn photos? Sometimes it’s just getting there.

When I needed newborn pictures for my own babies, I realized that if I hadn’t scheduled them while I was still pregnant, there was a very good chance they simply weren’t going to happen.

And Mom? You just had a baby.

This one is especially important to me.

You may not feel like yourself yet.

You may still be recovering. You may be tired. You may not feel comfortable getting dressed up and driving somewhere for an hour-long photography session.

And you shouldn’t have to.

When I come to your home, you can move at your own pace.

You can wear something comfortable.

You can feed the baby.

You can sit down.

You can take a break.

You don’t have to pretend you’re not exhausted.

You just had a baby.

Let yourself be exactly where you are.

And yes, you can feed your baby during your session.

Please don’t ever feel like you need to apologize for feeding your baby while I’m there.

I breastfed all three of my girls, and there is absolutely nothing embarrassing or awkward about feeding your child.

Quite the opposite.

There is something incredibly amazing and empowering about watching a mother nourish and comfort her baby.

So if your baby is hungry, we feed the baby.

Nursing, bottle, pumping—whatever your baby needs. We work around your baby.

That’s real life.

And that’s exactly what I want your photographs to remember.

One more thing I wish every new parent knew…

These days are incredibly precious. And they don’t last.

Don’t wait until after the baby arrives to think about newborn pictures.

You can contact me after your baby is born, of course, but life gets busy very quickly.

One day you’re holding this tiny, sleepy newborn who barely fills your arms.

And then suddenly they’re awake more.

They’re stretching.

They’re changing.

Their face looks different.

Their little body isn’t quite as curled up anymore.

And you realize just how quickly those first days disappeared.

That’s why I encourage expecting parents to reach out while they’re still pregnant and get their newborn session on the calendar.

Then you don’t have to think about it once the baby arrives.

You can just focus on your baby.

And I’ll come to you.
